AI product development
Reliable AI features inside your SaaS.
StartBuilds is an agency that helps startups build AI-powered products and add useful AI to software that already exists. Document search, assistants, workflow agents, and classification are designed around a product goal, with backend controls, evaluation, monitoring, and a clear limit on what the model is allowed to do. We do not claim the model is always accurate.
AI demos are easy. Production AI is not.
Founders get stuck between a flashy prototype and something customers can trust with their data.
Prompt spaghetti
Without structure, every feature becomes a one-off prompt. We design boundaries, tools, and fallbacks so AI behavior is predictable.
Security & data boundaries
PII, API keys, and tenant isolation can't be an afterthought. We implement server-side controls and audit-friendly patterns.
No measurement
If you can't tell when the model fails, you can't ship. We help you define success metrics and guardrails before users depend on it.
What we build
In-product AI features
Summarization, semantic search, classification, and copilots embedded in your existing UX.
Agents & automations
Workflow agents with tool use, webhooks, and human-in-the-loop where it matters.
RAG & knowledge bases
Document ingestion, chunking, retrieval, and citation patterns that hold up under real queries.
Model integration
OpenAI, Anthropic, or another provider, called from your backend with logging, spend limits, and a fallback when the model fails.
When AI belongs in the product
We use a model when it replaces a real manual step and you can tell a bad answer from a good one. Ordinary software is the better choice for rules you can write down: pricing logic, permissions, and anything that must be exact.
01
Decide the job
Search, classification, a draft, or a workflow step. If the task is deterministic, we build it in code and say so.
02
New product or a feature in an existing one
AI product development is a product whose core workflow depends on a model. AI feature integration adds one capability — search, an assistant, classification — to a SaaS that already works.
03
Evaluate before users depend on it
We agree a small set of example inputs and what a good answer looks like, then check failures, citations, and refusals before production traffic.
04
Constrain it in the backend
The browser never holds the provider key. Requests are authenticated, tenant-scoped, rate-limited, and logged. Sensitive actions need a human confirmation.
Controls, and what they do not guarantee
Evaluation, access control, and monitoring reduce bad outputs and surprise bills. They do not make a model correct, private by default, or safe for every user. The proposal states which data is sent to a provider and what happens when the model is wrong.
Included
- ✓A written feature scope and fixed price
- ✓Server-side model calls, permission checks, and rate limits
- ✓A small evaluation set for the agreed task
- ✓Logging and a spend cap or alert for inference
- ✓A fallback path when the provider errors or the answer fails checks
Not in this scope
- –A promise that answers are accurate or complete
- –Training a foundation model
- –Sending customer data to a provider without that being explicit in the scope
- –Unbounded agent actions that change production data without review
Products where AI is part of the workflow
These case studies describe shipped products. They are not claims that every AI answer was correct.
RankBamboo
SaaS for SEO and AI-search visibility, including analysis flows on top of a normal product backend.

Scope included an embed, webhooks, and optional model-assisted helpers behind the product’s own auth. Recorded duration: 15 days. The case study does not claim the model was always correct.

A live AI product for buying-intent prospects and LinkedIn outreach, with a human in the loop. We do not have a long-form case study for it. The public site is the product evidence.

An AI product is software whose main workflow depends on a model. An AI feature is one capability — search, an assistant, classification — added to a product that already has accounts, data, and a job to do. Most of our work is the second. Both are quoted as a fixed scope.

We will tell you if a model is the right tool, then quote a fixed scope if it is.
